"Kerja Petronas hidup senang,"

Ramai yang kata begitu. Aku juga pernah fikir begitu. Pernah juga mohon kerja di situ tapi kelayakan akademik tiada Hons. jadi permohonan ditolak.

Sejak dahulu bila ada kawan masuk Petronas, kami yang tak dapat ni, jadi bangga. "Aku ada kawan kerja Petronaaaasss..."

Automatik bila Petronas umum bonus berbulan-bulan, setahun...kami yang kerja gomen ni terkebil-kebil aja tengok.

Nak tunggu PM umum bonus sebulan pun dah kira bertuah amatlah tu.

Belum kira lagi kawan-kawan kerja private yang tak dapat bonus, potong gaji...

Tapi selepas 10 tahun tinggalkan alam universiti, aku dah faham tentang realiti hidup.

Hidup di Petronas tidaklah semudah disangka.

Sasaran KPI yang gila (kalau kau capai stretch itu tandanya kau dewa) , disiplin kerja yang ketat dan berdepan persepsi masyarakat (ada yang panggil mereka anjing kerajaan sebab Petronas penyumbang dana utama negara).

Tapi yang orang tak tahu adalah tentang kepayahan mereka. The struggle to survive.

Walaupun Petronas nampak besar di Malaysia, tapi di mata dunia, ia taklah besar mana.

Dalam temubual BFM dengan CEO PetChem pada Isnin lepas pun, Datuk Sazali Hamzah kata kekuatan PetChem adalah pada klien-klien yang kecil-kecil, yang syarikat besar-besar tak mahu.

As a company, Petronas is wearing multiple hats. As government owned-body, as corporate institution, as international player, as caretaker of life of 30 million people, just to describe a few.

Staf Petronas, dari atas ke bawah, termsuklah segala anak syarikatnya - merekalah yang menggalang tanggubg jawab ini.

Tak ramai yang dengar kisah mereka bila dihantar jauh ke tengah padang pasir untuk oil exploration.

Bukannya sedikit bilangan mereka yang terpaksa hidup dalam zon konflik, zon perang - yang mereka pun tak tahu esok pagi mereka akan masih bernyawa atau tidak.

Dan berapa ramai yang sanggup pegang telefon 24 jam, angkut laptop ke sana sini sebab panggilan tugas yang tak kira masa.

Ya, gaji mereka besar. Tapi itulah nilaian pada pengorbanan mereka.

Entahlah kau orang nak fikir apa, tapi bila tengok pakcik aku hidup berjauhan dari keluarga, tengok kawan aku yang sampai kena cari dengan kongsi gelap sebab buka market Petronas di kawasan dia...

Aku hargai kerja mereka.
