Pemangku Ketua Polis Daerah Barat Daya, Deputi Superintendan Siti Norsalawati Saad berkata, lelaki berkenaan cedera ketika menolong seorang warga emas yang diragut suspek.

Menurutnya, dalam kejadian pada jam 12.15 tengahari itu, warga emas itu sedang berjalan di hadapan restoran dan didatangi suspek dari arah belakang lalu merentap beg tangan mangsa yang berusia 60 tahun itu.

"Mangsa kemudiannya menjerit menyebabkan orang ramai di kawasan itu mula mengejar suspek. Suspek kemudiannya berjaya ditahan dan berlaku pergelutan di antara suspek dan orang awam. Salah seorang daripada mereka cedera apabila suspek yang membawa senjata iaitu pisau menoreh tangannya.

"Suspek bagaimanapun berjaya ditahan orang ramai dan diserahkan kepada polis untuk tindakan lanjut. Mangsa yang cedera dibawa ke Hospital Pulau Pinang (HPP) untuk rawatan lanjut. Beg tangan warga emas berkenaan yang mengandungi wang, telefon bimbit dan beberapa dokumen berjaya ditemui semula. Polis turut merampas motosikal jenis Yamaha 125Z milik bapa suspek yang digunakan suspek," katanya ketika dihubungi.

Siti Norsalawati berkata, suspek berusia 28 tahun kini ditahan untuk siasatan lanjut.

"Hasil semakan, suspek yang tinggal di Bayan Lepas itu mempunyai lima rekod lampau termasuk kesalahan dadah dan mencuri.

"Kes disiasat mengikut Seksyen 394 Kanun Keseksaan kerana samun sehingga mendatangkan kecederaan," katanya.
